Leon Preston Jones

Mr. Leon Preston Jones, 89, of Hillsborough, died on Tuesday, July 4, 2017.Mr. Jones was born in Durham, the son of the late Elmo Stokes Jones and Ella Vay Turner Jones. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and World War II. He retired in 1983, with over 25 years of service with Eastern Airlines. After retiring he worked for Duke University as a courier. He loved ballroom dancing and was a wonderful musician. He attended New Hope Church of God and Prophecy. He was a member of the gospel group Messengers of Faith. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather and a friend and mentor to many. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Sandra S. Jones; brothers, Stokes, Merle, Paul and Pelton Jones and sister, Rachel Long.He is survived by his wife Betty Honeycutt Jones; daughters, Kathy Jones Phipps, Pamela Jones and Angela Jones Barbee and husband, Mickey; step-children, Kim Walsh, Suzannah Thomas, David Honeycutt and Robbie Honeycutt; brother, Sidney Jones; sister, Ellen Smith; 16 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and many loving family members.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Pastor Jerry Sands with the New Hope Church of God and Prophecy and Mr. Sherman Barnette will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.The family will receive friends on Friday, July 7, 2017 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home.
