Alfred Benjamin “Benny” Greenhill

DURHAM Mr. Alfred Benjamin “Benny” Greenhill, 87 of Durham, died on Friday, September 22, 2017.
Mr. Greenhill was born in Durham, the son of the late John Harrison Greenhill and Gladys Sewell Greenhill. He served in the U. S. Navy and retired after 38 years from the American Tobacco Company. He was a member of the former Alston Ave. Baptist Church in Durham. He was a comedian and loved to play Bluegrass music. He played with the Black Mountain Boys and on the radio stations WKIX, WTIK and WSSB “Country Boy”. He could play the fiddle, guitar and bass fiddle and in the 1950’s he played music at the WTVD talent show. He was preceded in death by his brothers Jimmy Greenhill, Tommy Greenhill and a sister, Patricia Greenhill.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lucille B. Greenhill; two daughters, Cynthia Greenhill and husband, Deok Hoon Kang of S. Korea and Ida Frances Scull and husband, Mike of Rougemont; grandchildren, Shannon Leigh Garrard of Asheville and Raven Ganey of Lenoir and one brother, John H. Greenhill of Fayetteville.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday at 3 pm at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Rev. Hugh O’Shields will officiate.
The family will recieve friends on Wednesday from 2 to 3 pm, before the service at Hudson Funeral Home. Online condolences can be made at www.hudsonfuneralhome.com.
