Alice "Kitty" Catherine Tharrington

Alice “Kitty” Tharrington, 79, of Durham, North Carolina peacefully passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2023.  She was born to the late Raymond and Mary Fisher on October 14, 1943, in Durham, NC.

Kitty worked as a Registered Nurse in the Surgical Department at McPherson Hospital for 27 years and Duke Hospital for 12 years until her retirement.  She was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church. 

Kitty was a great cook who enjoyed having family over, especially during the holidays.  She was a loving and caring woman who would help anyone in need.  Kitty dearly loved her husband, children and grandchildren.  She will be remembered as the Best Wife, Mom and Grandma who had a great smile that could light up any room and just make others happy.  Kitty will be deeply missed by the many family members, friends and church members blessed to have known her.

Kitty is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Gerald Fisher.

She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Charlie Tharrington; daughters, Karen Retzlaff (Tommy) and Kelly Colyar (Gary); grandchildren, Nick Retzlaff, Evan Retzlaff, Patrick Colyar and Elizabeth Colyar and numerous other loving family members and friends.

Funeral services will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 1204 Lynn Rd., Durham, NC 27703 on Monday, May 8, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. The family will receive friends one hour prior starting at 1:00 P.M. Officiating will be Rev. Chris Otto.  Interment will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Durham, NC.
