Alma Merritt Davis

DURHAM- Mrs. Alma Merritt Davis, 101, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2017.
Mrs. Davis was born February 28, 1916 in Durham, NC where she was a lifelong resident. She attended Durham schools. Mrs. Davis then worked as an inspector for Durham Drapery and also worked for Lowe’s Grove School Cafeteria for several years. She was a member of Lowe’s Grove Baptist Church and the Sunday School Senior Class. Mrs. Davis was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be deeply missed by everyone blessed to have known her.
Mrs. Davis is preceded in death by her husband, Billie Adams Davis; son, Wayne Davis; parents, Cleveland and Susan Merritt and siblings, Pete, Hurley, Dovie and Hickmon Merritt.
Mrs. Davis is survived by her son Bob Davis (Sally); daughter-in-law, Alice Davis; grandchildren, Molly Davis, Kim Clark, Lori Raney, Sherry Dulling, and Barry Hood; numerous great grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Lowe’s Grove Baptist Church. A visitation will be held an hour prior from 10-11 a.m. at Lowe’s Grove Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Woody Freeze. Burial will follow at Lowe’s Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Marshall Shipp, Wallace Merritt, Jack Swanson, Mike Jones, Gene Jenkins, and Alfred O’Briant.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Lowe’s Grove Baptist Church and the Lowe’s Grove Rose Garden Fund 4430 S. Alston Ave. Durham, NC 27713.
