DURHAM Mrs. Alma Nichols Sanders, 91, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 12, 2011. She was born in 1920 to the late Pearl and Elbert H. Nichols. Mrs. Sanders retired from the Liggett & Myers Tobacco Company. She attended Shady Grove FWB Church until she was unable to attend. She was a devoted wife, mother and gardener who enjoyed family “get-togethers” and being outside. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Carl Bruce Sanders; grandson, Ben Warren; brothers, Alton and E. H. Nichols; half-brothers, Nick and Robert Nichols and a half-sister, Cleo Martin.She is survived by her four daughters, Lenna Warren and husband, Norman of Baton Rouge, LA., Ruth Cash and husband, Linwood of Raleigh, Becky Freeman and husband, Tommy of Durham and Cathy Batten and husband, Jeff of Durham; 9 grandchildren, Bruce Warren and wife, Andrea, Brent Warren and wife, Kelly, Becky Hoychick and husband, Johnny, Denise Carlisle-Pilcher and husband, Gerhard Pilcher, Doug Carlisle and wife, Angel, Jake Freeman and wife, Melissa, Luke Freeman and wife, Ashley, Heather Fields and husband, Kevin and Jeffrey Batten II and fiancé Jill Williams; 16 great-grandchildren, Lauren and Taylor Warren, Alec and Mason Warren, Hayden, Harrison, Sawyer and Brinkley Warren, Josie, Samuel, Jacob Hoychick, Ashley C. Wentz and husband, Brooks, Dylan and Lauren Carlisle, Colton Freeman and Camden Fields; 1 great-grandchild, Addysen Wentz and one sister, Rachel Wood and husband, Bill.Funeral services will be held on Friday at 3 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Rev. Frank Rice will officiate. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at the home.
