DURHAM- Andrew “Andy” Bond, age 64 of Durham died Thursday, March 24, 2011. He was a native of Honolulu. Andy grew up in Rhode Island and moved to Fayetteville, NC when he joined the U.S. Army at age 17 and retired as a Colonel in 1994. He was a member of the Durham Sail and Power Squadron. He loved boating, fishing and spending time with his family at the beach. Andy was a wonderful brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was “wicked” funny and enjoyed a friendly game of poker. He was a member of Holy Infant Catholic Church of Durham for over 33 years. He was the son of the late Bryden Jasper Bond and Marie Arnold Cooper Bond. He was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Martha Gantt Bond, and 2 brothers, Bruce Bond and Christopher Bond. He is survived by 3 daughters: Mary Elizabeth “Bitsy” Butts (Earl), Anna “Katie” Collins (Branan), and Leslie Bond, 3 sisters: Martha Ann DellaCamera, Elizabeth “Betsy” Flynn (Mike), and Susan Bond, also 2 grandsons: Andrew and Sean Butts, and 1 granddaughter, Rileigh Collins.A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 16 at 12:00 noon. at Holy Infant Catholic Church , 5000 Southpark Dr., Durham, NC 27713.
