Arthur Burcham Holder

DURHAM- Mr. Arthur Burcham Holder, 91, passed away Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Hock Family Pavilion.
Mr. Holder was born in Durham, NC on October 1, 1925 to the late John and Lillie Holder. Mr. Holder lifelong resident of Durham, NC where he worked at American Tobacco for 43 years. He was a member of Fletchers Chapel United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Mr. Holder was a member of the Iron Dukes and was very active in the Oak Grove Athletic Association. He umpired baseball and softball for numerous years. Mr. Holder was a member of the Ruritan Club and loved to watch Duke Football and Basketball games. He loved to hunt, fish, and enjoy the outdoors. He loved his family and people and has been an influence on many people. Mr. Holder will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many.
Mr. Holder is preceded in death by his parents, John and Lillie Holder; daughter, Phyllis Norris; brothers, Robert Holder, Rex Holder, Charlie Holder, and Bronco Holder; sisters, Virgie Johnson and Hallie Appelt; grandson, Bradley Watkins.
Mr. Holder is survived by his wife of 72 years, Sylvia Holder; sons, Mark Holder (Becky), Larry B. Holder (Gracie); daughters, Deborah Holder Hunt (Lewis), Shirley Holder Jayson (Steve), Stephanie Sue Honeycutt (Banks); brothers, John Holder, Jr., Frank Holder, Don Holder; sisters, Lanora Tuck, Maxine Thomas, and Christine Eakes; grandchildren, Haywood Watkins, Robin Watkins, Lee Gibson, Amanda Farnsworth, Greg Holder, Brandi Tunnel; great-grandchildren, 12; great-great grandchildren, 3, and numerous other loving family members and friends.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. Officiating will be Rev. Genaves John Rigsbee. A visitation will be held Monday, August 21, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home.
