Arthur James Clayton

DURHAM Mr. Arthur James Clayton, 94, of Durham, died on Friday, June 5, 2015.

Mr. Clayton was born in Person County to the late Wiley and Annie Vaughan Clayton. He was a retired Timber Broker. He had lived in the Bethesda community for over 60 years. He was a charter member of Shady Grove Free Will Baptist Church and a former member of the Bethesda Ruritan Club. He loved fishing at Falls Lake and playing checkers with friends at Lynns Crossroads Community Building. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vada Capps Clayton and sons, Richard Everett Clayton and Stephen A. Clayton and grandson, Scott Clayton.

He is survived by a daughter, Janice Clayton Harris (Curtis);  grandchildren, Diane Harris Tackney (Neal), Amanda Harris Brady (Don) and Chad Abbott; great- grandchildren, Morgan Jones, Caitlin Tackney, Camryn Tackney and one sister, Wilma Bridges of Sharpsburg, NC. And many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 8th at 11 a.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Chaplain Tim Tudor will officiate. Burial will be in Brier Creek Memorial Gardens.  Pallbearers will be Chad Abbott, Chris Davis, Bobby Clayton, Jr., Jimmy Ross and Johnny Defibaugh.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the service at the funeral home. Flowers are acceptable. Online condolences may be made at www.hudsonfuneralhome.com.
