DURHAM Mr. Arthur Winston Teasley, Sr., 93, of Durham, died on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, in his home surrounded by his family.Mr. Teasley was born and raised in Bahama, NC, the son of the late Luther Lee Teasley and Mary Emma Veasey Teasley. He served in the U. S. Army in Europe and the Pacific during WWII and received a Purple Heart. He retired after more than 40 years as chef at Hartman’s Steakhouse. He is a beloved member of the NC State Fair Garden Show community. He competed in the patio garden competition and flower show for more than 25 years and won many first place awards as well as the Commissioner of Agriculture Award and Gardeners’ Choice Award.He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Catherine Kitty Hartman Teasley: his five children, Julia Teasley, Arthur “Bubby” Teasley (Bonnie), Gertrude Byrd (Joe), Mary Jane Clark (Jim), and Cathy Teasley. Also left to cherish the memory of Grandpa/PaPa are 9 grandchildren (Artie Teasley, Andrea Owens, Cindy Fox, Randy and Michael Byrd, Natasha and Rainbow Teasley, Kelly Kovalesky, Scott Clark) and 9 great-grandchildren (Kendall and Cole Teasley, Nina Early, Grant and Erin Fox, Grace, Griffin, and Kenley Kovalesky, Clara Clark).Graveside services will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Grant Fox, Tim Fox, Cole Teasley, Artie Teasley, Randy Byrd and Rainbow Teasley. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Byrd, Erin Fox and Kendall Teasley.The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., before the service at Hudson Funeral Home.
