Mrs. Bernice Blackwell Spaulding, 90, a former resident of 305 Southerland Street, died on Tuesday, April 6, 2010. Mrs. Spaulding was a native of Granville County and the daughter of the late John Fleming and Sadie Nash Blackwell. She graduated from Rolesville High School. She was a member of Fuller Memorial Reformed Presbyterian Church. She volunteered her time helping others at the Durham VA Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Spaulding, daughter, Linda Spaulding, sisters, Lillian, Annie, Lizzie and brothers, William, Robert, Odell and Marvin. She is survived by her son, Larry Spaulding of Charlotte; sister, Pauline Ashley of Durham, sister-in-laws, Dot Blackwell of Durham and Hettie Blackwell of Raleigh; grandchildren, Daniel Spaulding and Joshua Spaulding both of Washington State and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. at Fuller Memorial Reformed Presbyterian Church, officiated by Dr. Darrell Pond. Interment will be in Brier Creek Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church. The family wishes to offer their heartfelt thanks to the devoted friends who loved and attended Bernice with their weekly visits. The family will be forever grateful to Belle, Lee, Shirley, Delores and Becky.
