Betty Dollar Hester

DURHAM Mrs. Betty Dollar Hester, 86, a former resident of Durham, died on Thursday, February 09, 2017.
Mrs. Hester was born in Wake County, the daughter of the late June C. Dollar and Ruby Byrd Dollar. She worked for the Duke University Perkins Library as a book binder and later for Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC. She attended Northgate Chapel. She loved doing crafts and especially Crocheting. Mrs. Hester was preceded in death by her sister, Edna Wood.
She is survived by her husband, Donald E. Hester, Sr.; three sons, Donald E. Hester, Jr. and wife, Chandra of Wake Forest, Eric Hester and wife, Terre of Durham and Craig B. Hester of Durham; sister, Jean D. Weaver of Hillsborough; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 13, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Rev. John Gordon will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Scott Pierce, Daniel Pierce, Mark Messer, Brock Chambers, Bran Wood and Hunter Wood.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 1 to 2 p.m., before the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Northgate Chapel, 3207 Duke Homestead Road, Durham NC 27705 or to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018.
