Betty Sue Hill, 77, of Durham, North Carolina peacefully passed away at home with her loving husband at her side. She was born on June 4, 1945 in Durham, NC at Watts Hospital to the late L.B. and Evelyn Ellis.
Mrs. Hill graduated from Durham High School in 1963. She worked as a Bookkeeper for many years, later retiring from Buckner Steel with over 20 years of service. After retirement, she also worked with family at the Grove Café where she enjoyed serving, talking with friends, and meeting new people.
Betty was a longtime member at Durham Memorial Baptist Church. Early on, she enjoyed leading the Girls in Action class, as well as volunteering in the nursery. She also enjoyed being a member of the Ruth Gleaners Sunday School Class. Betty adored children and over the years took care of many from the family and around the community. She also took pleasure in reading but most of all loved her family. Betty will be deeply missed by everyone blessed to have known her.
Betty’s family would like to express their deep appreciation for all of the loving care provided for her and the family by the Duke Homecare and Hospice team. Their dedication, guidance, and support will be forever cherished. Likewise, they would also like to extend their gratefulness to the ladies of the Ruth Gleaners Sunday School Class for their prayers and loving acts of kindness.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents and Great Grandson, Owen Lee Hill. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years Charles Hill; children, Michael Hill (Laura), Kimberly Carpenter (Neal) and Christopher Lloyd Hill; sister, Sandra Sweet (Russell); grandchildren, Amanda Zwetzig (Quinn), Justin Hill (Kassandra), Collin Carpenter and Chloe Carpenter; great grandchildren, Brian Sego, Skyler Zwetzig, Trinity Zwetzig, Orion Hill and Jaxon Zwetzig and other loving family members.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, August 15, 2022 at Hudson Funeral Home Chapel, 211 S. Miami Blvd., Durham, NC 27703. Officiating will be Dr. Gerald Goodwin.
