Durham- Betty Peninger Baker, 86, of Durham passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2016. She was a native and lifelong resident of Durham, the daughter of the late David Jerry Peninger and Mary Ray Vowell. She was a faithful and devoted member of First Assembly of God Church in Durham NC. She was an extremely devoted mother, grandmother and mother figure to many. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur “Red” Baker; son, Rocky Ritch; brother, Jerry Peninger; sisters, Edna Nealis, Ruby Causey, Cookie Gooch, son, Rick Baker and grandson, Donald Baker.

She is survived by her son, Terry Ritch (Arietta); daughters, Sandra Ritch and Lisa Bond (Mark); daughter-in-law, Evangeline Ritch (Rocky); extended family, Cliff and Jackie Baker, Kathy Davis, Rob Baker, Kellie Cheek (Rodney) and Cindy Baker, grandchildren, Matthew Ritch, Jon Ritch, Mark Gregory (Julie), Tony Gregory, Eric Ritch (Amanda), Heather Ritch, Adam Stiefvater, Alex Bond, Krystal Davis, Ashley Smith (Stephen), April Baker, Rodney Cheek, Jr. and Chloe Cheek; great-grandchildren, Faith, Emily and Reese Gregory.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at First Assembly of God, 1034 Hamlin Rd. Pastor Denver Shelton will officiate. Active pallbearers will be Mark Gregory, Adam Stiefvater, Heather Ritch, Tony Gregory, Jon Ritch and Eric Ritch.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 11, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home. Flowers are acceptable or donations can be made in her memory to the National Kidney Foundation, 4701 Hedgemore Dr. #810, Charlotte, NC 28209.
