Durham Mrs. Betty Lee Weaver Norwood, of Durham, passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at the age of 90, after an extended illness.
Betty Lee Weaver was born on August 4, 1924 to Charlie and Bertha Castle Weaver. She had a half-sister, Bertha Lois Cates and two step-sisters, Annie Mae Scott Weaver and Ruby Castle. Mrs. Norwood was preceded in death by her father, mother and husband, Arnold Blake Norwood and two stepsons, Blake and Jimmy Norwood.
She retired from Liggett & Myers Tobacco Company. She was a lifetime member of the former Gospel Center now Grove Park Chapel. She and her husband were members of the Oak Grove Ruritan Club. During her working career in the food service industry, she made lifetime friends including neighbors which she shared fresh garden vegetables. It was said that she was on the best cooks in Durham County.
She is survived by a daughter, Gloria Thompson and husband, Bobby; two sons, Philip and his wife, Kay and Robert McLamb. She will also be missed by her step-children, Blake’s wife, Myra, David Norwood and Nancy and Ricky Bishop. Grandchildren are Richard Thompson and wife, Chapel, Todd, Robbie and Jonathan McLamb and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 20th at 2 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel, officiated by Pastor Dale Brooks. Interment will be on Monday, February 23rd at 1 p.m. at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 1 to 2 p.m., prior to the service at Hudson Funeral Home. Flowers are acceptable.
