DURHAM- Bruce Terry Carpenter, Sr., 73, of Durham went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late Nereus Carpenter and Ruth Terry Rhodes. Bruce retired from U.S. Postal Service after 35 years of service as a mail carrier. He later retired from Durham Academy where he developed many lasting friendships. Bruce was a loving husband, daddy, granddaddy, brother, devoted Christian and an active member of Olive Branch Baptist Church. He enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing and most importantly, spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Rebecca; children, Rhonda Edwards (Mike), Terry Carpenter (Kim); Karen Kirby (Brad); sister, Janet Mishue (Steve); grandchildren, Ashley Edwards (Brandon Goulet), Brent Edwards (Katie), Kelsey Carpenter, Austin Kirby and Parker Kirby.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Olive Branch Baptist Church. Reverend Tim Wheeler and Pastor Donnie Cash will officiate. Burial will follow at Olive Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Randy Baker, Gary Brichford , Earl Carpenter, Edward Carpenter, Roy Dickerson, George Pearce, Wade Winstead and Earl Woods. Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Adcock, Benny Andrews, Neal Carpenter, Earl Kirby, Ralph Perry, Cecil Poythress and Dexter Tart.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at the home. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to The Duke Cancer Center and a special thank you to Evan Dropkin, P.A.-C for her sincere care and compassion.
