DURHAM- Mr. Carl Edward Choplin, Sr., 97, went to be with our Lord and Savior, Friday, September 15, 2017.Mr. Choplin was born in Durham Co. to the late Thomas W. Choplin and Cora Belle Clodfelter Choplin.Carl served 21 months in the Navy during WWII, working on supply ships from Virginia to Europe. He retired from Liggett & Myers Tobacco Company. He was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church and a long standing member of the Woodmen of the World. He loved his family, singing, traveling, and the Lord.Mr. Choplin is preceded in death by his loving wife of 76 years, Frances. His five sisters and two brothers.Mr. Choplin is survived by his son, Carl Edward “Eddie” Choplin, Jr. of the home; three daughters, Marian Choplin Goodwin (Roy) of Raleigh, Jean Choplin of Durham, and Jeanette Choplin Roberts (Ray) of Rougemont; 8 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren.The family would like to extend their appreciation to all Hospice, VA, and Meals-On-Wheels volunteers and caregivers.Pallbearers will be Brian Buchanan, Adam Holder, Grant Freidlein, Spencer Freidlein, Jason Roberts, Andy Butler, Kevin Beasley, Jacob Buchanan. Honorary Pallbearers, the great-grandchildren, Ray Roberts, and Roy Goodwin.Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Ken Forehand and Rev. Edwin Hill. A visitation will be held an hour prior from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at Hudson Funeral Home.
