DURHAM Mrs. Caroline Ann Matthews, 92, of Durham, passed away on Monday, May 7, 2018.
Mrs. Matthews was born in Trenton, New Jersey, the daughter of the late Joseph Schmitt, Sr. and Anna Steinhauer Schmitt. She retired in 1992 from Durham County Department of Social Services. She was a member of RTP Community Church for over 20 years and a member of the LC’s At Blacknall Memorial Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Matthews had a great sense of humor and never met a stranger. She loved her flowers, feeding the birds and enjoyed crocheting. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and “GG”. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, William H. Matthews; her son, William Matthews; brother, Joseph Schmitt and a twin sister, Josephine Wittmier.
She is survived by her two daughters, Carol Jenkins (Ed) and Barbara Roberson; brother-in-law, LT Hunnings; grandchildren, Carol L. Jenkins, Stefanie Pridgen and husband, Tim, Joseph Bobby Medlin III (Deanna), William David Medlin (Carla); great-grandchildren, Andrew Medlin and Matthew Pridgen and other living family members.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, May 11, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. Pastor Deborah Perkins will officiate.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 10, 2018 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home. Flowers are acceptable or donations can be made to Duke HomeCare and Hospice, 4321 Medical Park Drive, Suite 101, Durham, NC 27704 for the Hock Pavilion.
