Carolyn Ann Merritt

HOLDEN BEACH, NC- Ms. Carolyn Ann Merritt, 79, suddenly passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2018.
Ms. Merritt was born April 23, 1938 in Durham, NC to the late Leonza and Lillian Merritt. She was an Administrator at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill for over 30 years. Carolyn also had her Real Estate Broker’s License. Following retirement, she moved to Holden Beach where she resided for 20 years. She also loved gardening, working outside, and was a huge sports fan especially a college basketball fan. Carolyn will be remembered as a strong, intelligent, beautiful and independent mother who will be deeply missed by her family. Carolyn donated tissue through the Carolina Donor Services Program.
Ms. Merritt is survived by her son, Edward C. Watkins (Kathy); daughter, Kimberly A. Dewey; grandchildren, Casey Watkins, Edward Watkins, Jr., Conor F. Dewey, Carolina E. Dewey; and canine companion, Cam Merritt.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Maplewood Cemetery, 1621 Duke University Rd, Durham, NC 27701. Officiating will be Rev. Nancy Dederer.
