Catherine Pendergraft Utley

DURHAM Mrs. Catherine Marie Pendergraft Utley, 85, of Durham, died at Duke Regional Hospital on Tuesday, February 17, 2015.
Catherine was a native and lifetime resident of Durham, the daughter of the late Robert Levy Pendergraft and Clemmie Lorraine Sykes Pendergraft. She worked for Lakeshore Golf Course for many years. She worked many hours providing food for all the workers and family and helped to contribute to the success of the family business. After retiring she became a homemaker, cooking for whoever would stop by. She was known as “Granny” to everyone. We will always have special memories of Granny and the fun we had growing up with her at the pool and on the golf course. We had so many laughs that will always be cherished. She was a former member of Edgemont Baptist Church and attended Bethesda Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, James Marvin Utley, Jr.; sons, Marvin Utley III and wife, Billie Jo, Lou Utley and wife, Jane; daughter, Patsy Perkins and husband, Larry; grandchildren, Jay Utley IV (Heather), Kristy Utley Beverly, Kim Perkins (David) and Nichole Utley; two great-grandchildren, McKenzie Utley and Jacob Utley.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Francis Pendergraft Ellington and brothers, Alston, Jack, Thurston and Ed Pendergraft.
We would like to thank the ICU Unit at Duke Regional Hospital; Kathy Rigsbee, a friend and caretaker for granny and Daddy J; Jackie, a friend and granny’s hairdresser for many years and also Dr. Linsfors, Pastor Jack Moody and Rev. Kris Williams.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Pastor Jack Moody will officiate. Pallbearers will be Tommy Roberts, Jerry Hackney, Mike Mitchell, Chip Stallings, Ronnie Rigsbee and Rodney Roberts. Honorary pallbearers will be R. H. Ballard and Little Tommy Roberts. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
