Charles Edward Knott Sr., 80 of Durham, died Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at the NC Veterans Home in Kinston, NC after a short battle with lung cancer.  A native of Person County, Charles  was the son of the late Luther D. Knott and Annie Royster Knott. 

Following his service in the United States Navy, Mr. Knott moved to Durham to pursue a career with Burnham Van Lines and Accurex.  He was an accomplished athlete, coached numerous youth baseball and football teams, and loved to watch sports, especially baseball. He was a devoted father and friend.

Mr. Knott is survived by his ex-wife, Nelle Mooney Knott; sons, Charles E. Knott Jr. and wife Elizabeth and Bruce W. Knott and wife Lisa, both of Durham; brothers, Martin “Bart” Knott, of Timberlake and Bruce Knott and wife Jackie, of Roxboro; sisters; Mary Gentry and husband Bernard, of Timberlake, Sandra Eakes, of Timberlake, and Violet Whitfield and husband Marvin, of Hurdle Mills; granddaughters, Chandler and Lauren; and grandsons, Jordan and Alex.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Knott was predeceased by his son, John Franklin Knott; five brothers Luther “Mack” Knott, Julian Cecil Knott, Sterling Beryl Knott, Robert Allen Knott and Dolowayne Knott; and one sister Elizabeth Knott Murray.

Visitation service will be held, Saturday, April 25 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Hudson Funeral Home, 211 S. Miami Blvd., Durham.                    

In lieu of flowers, memorials or donations may be made to the Fisher House Foundation, 111 Rockville Pike, Suite 240, Rockville, MD 20850. The Fisher House is best known for a network of comfort homes where military and Veterans’ families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving treatment and care.
