DURHAM Mr. Chinnis David Lanier, 82, of Durham, passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2017.
Mr. Lanier was born in Denton, N.C., the son of the late Doc Van Lanier and Nannie Carrick Lanier. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and retired after 38 years from Monroe Systems for Business as a service technician. He was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church. He was a member of the Bethesda Ruritan Club and Past-President of the Bethesda Athletic Association, where he coached basketball, football and baseball for many years. He loved gardening and was a “big Duke fan”. He was preceded in death by his brother, Johnnie Lanier and sisters, Virginia Dare Lanier, Charlotte Dellinger.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Faye Walker Lanier; one son, Chinnis “Chuck” Lanier, Jr. of Cary; brother, Roland Lanier and wife Faye of Gastonia; two sisters, Pearl Fowler of Durham and Hattie Lee Nolan and husband, Robert of Hobe Sound, Fla. and granddaughter, Lindsey Lanier of Chapel Hill.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethesda Baptist Church. Rev. Ernest Ferrell and Rev. Hugh O’Shields will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Curtis Fowler, Tim Fowler, Gary Fowler, Gerry Williams, Edward Wheeler, Glenn Smith and David Lanier. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Bethesda Ruritan Club.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at the home. Flowers are acceptable or donations may be made to Bethesda Baptist Church, 1914 S. Miami Blvd, Durham, NC 27703. Online condolences can be made at www.hudsonfuneralhome.com.
