Christine “Sissy” Sykes Ferrell

DURHAM- Ms. Christine “Sissy” Sykes Ferrell, 95, passed away Monday, March 25, 2019.Sissy was born November 23, 1923 to Aretus and Lottie Sykes in Durham, NC. She was a charter member of Shady Grove Free Will Baptist Church and worked at American Tobacco for 42 years. Ms. Ferrell enjoyed staying home, gardening, and canning food. Sissy loved her family and cooking for them, she also loved her community and her church family.Ms. Ferrell is preceded in death by her parents, Aretus and Lottie Sykes; husband, James Ward Ferrell; brother, Edward Sykes.Ms. Ferrell is survived by her son, Ken Ferrell (Debbie) of Durham, NC; daughter, Bonnie Brown (Sam) of Durham, NC; sister, Ruby Hoffman of Durham, NC; grandchildren, Dwayne George (Andrea) of Durham, NC, Kimberly Nay (Jimmy) of Greenville, NC, Brian Ferrell (Kristin) of Stem, NC, Laura Patoka (Jonathan) of Durham, NC: great-grandchildren, DJ George (Kelsey) Richburg, SC, Taylor Costilow (Justin) of Apex, NC, Makaila Nay of Greenville, NC, Kaitlynn George of Durham, NC, Madison Nay of Greenville, NC, and Hunter Ferrell of Stem, NC; great great-grandchild, Samuel George of Richburg, SC.A visitation will be held an hour prior from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 28, 2019 at Hudson Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the Hudson Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Tim McCreight. Pallbearers will be Mihael Piekar, Jonathan Patoka, Jimmy Nay, Dylan Radford, Justin Costilow, and Steve Sykes. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.Flowers are acceptable.
