Cleveland Adams Shepherd

DURHAM Mr. Cleveland Adams Shepherd, 82, of Chapel Hill Road, died on Tuesday, June 12, 2012.Mr. Shepherd was a lifelong resident of Durham, the son of the late T.W. Shepherd and Lettie Pendergrass Shepherd. He attended Hope Valley School and was a graduate of Durham Tech. Mr. Shepherd served in the U.S. Army and the U. S. Air Force. He was a member of Yates Baptist Church. He was a delegate for the Durham County appointed by the Department of Agriculture. He was also a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge 210 and a Shriner for over 50 years. He was a member of the Elks Lodge 568, receiving numerous awards and serving as exalted ruler. He was preceded in death by his, brother, Thomas W. Shepherd, Jr. and sisters, Elizabeth S. Sherron and Louise S. Yeargan.He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Nancy Oakley Shepherd; sons David C. Shepherd of Durham and Donald A. Shepherd of the home; his daughter, Gayle S. Harrison of Goldsboro, He is also survived by his brother-in-law, William M. (Bill) Oakley and sister-in-law, Ramona B. Shepherd and numerous nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery.The family will receive friends on Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. before the service at the funeral home. Flowers are acceptable.
