DUNN, NC- Dan Ward Fletcher, 85, passed away on January 2, 2021.
Mr. Fletcher was born on September 3, 1935 to Walter and Mary Fletcher in Durham, NC. Dan worked at Metalcraft Fabricating Company in Durham for most of his adult life eventually becoming a part owner with his three brothers. After taking early retirement and moving to Oriental, NC, he enjoy one of his favorite pass times, fishing. He taught many family members young and old to love and enjoy the sport. He enjoyed horseback riding and gardening with his faithful tractor “Annie”. He enjoyed the bounty of his labors and was always quick to share with others. He was a gentle giant with a quick wit that allowed him to enjoy practical joking and humor. He was a loving caring son, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather uncle and friend. His passing leaves a void for many.
Mr. Fletcher was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Mary Fletcher; wife, Wanda Hargis Fletcher; daughter, Debra Fletcher Powell; brothers, Ray and John Fletcher; and sisters, Barbara Odum and Charlotte McCotter.
Mr. Fletcher is survived by his son, Ricky Fletcher (Mary Ann) of Hillsborough, NC; step-son, Barry Hargis; brother, Doug Fletcher; sisters, Mary “Bitsy” Fletcher, Brenda Perry (Felton) of Durham, NC, Teresa Fletcher-Lay, Ruby Griffin (Stuart) of Durham, NC, Bonnie Barbee (Bill), of Elm City, NC; grandchildren, Forrest Steele (Jennifer), Jodie Critcher Edwards (Boyd), and Michelle Fletcher; step-grandchildren, Monica Fletcher Horton (Pat), Woody Fletcher (Haley), and Layla Hargis; great-grandchildren, Chase Edwards, Chesney Edwards, Cullen Edwards, and RJ Powers; step-great-grandchildren, Nathan Horton, Ryan Horton, and Kinsley Fletcher; and special caregiver to Dan, David “Ace” Brown.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Hudson Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home. Officiating will be Dr. M. David Chambers. Burial to follow at Lowes Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bill Barbee, Randal Barbee, Felton Perry Jr., Stone Perry, Pat Horton and Nathan Horton.
Flowers are acceptable. Hudson Funeral Home will be observing social distancing for visitation as well as the funeral service, and asks everyone in attendance to wear a mask when entering the building.
