Danny Tharrington of Durham, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with a chronic lung disease.
He was born on September 23, 1954, to the late Grady Spencer and Mollie Harris Tharrington. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Kenneth, Carl, J. B. and Bobby Tharrington.
He was a faithful and active member of Calvary Baptist Church and Bethesda Ruritan Club of Durham. He was raised in the Baptist Children’s Homes of NC (Kennedy Home Campus). He worked selling and repairing Electric Motors for 50 plus years.
He is survived by his wife Sandie Knox Tharrington, Sons; Michael Tharrington, Gary Tharrington (Allegra) and Aaron Griffin (Anita), Granddaughters; Michelle and Sarah Tharrington and Kristina Thomas, Grandson; Kody Griffin. Brother; Charlie Tharrington, Sisters; Beatrice Carter (CJ), Linda Cash, Sue Wheless (Danny). Sisters-in-Law; Barbara Smith, Frances Tharrington, Lynn Tharrington and Nancy Russell and Brother-in-Law; Jeff Knox (Judy). He is also survived by many loving family members and many brothers and sisters he gained over his years at Kennedy Home in Kinston who have remained close to Danny over the years.
He loved spending time with his family and friends and never met a stranger. He enjoyed the many friendships he made over the years and loved spending time with people. Danny was an outdoors guy who loved hiking, camping and backpacking all over the NC Mountains. Danny will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and a great friend and will be truly missed by everyone who’s lives he touched every day.

A Funeral will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, February 10, 2025, at Calvary Baptist Church on 1204 Lynn Road in Durham. An hour and a half Visitation will take place prior to the funeral.
Officiating will be Reverend Chris Otto.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Baptist Children’s Homes of NC.
