DURHAM — Mr. David R. McCray, 57, of Durham, NC, died peacefully in the arms of his Savior on Thursday, August 20, 2015.
David was born June 18, 1958, in Sacramento, CA, to Warren F. and Veloy (Hendrix) McCray. David’s father, Warren, is 92 years of age and remains a resident of CA. His devoted mother preceded him in death in 1998.in 1998.
David married his beloved Lee Ann Goodwin McCray December 18, 1984, in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Oakland CA Temple. Lee Ann is thankful for David’s positive influence and sense of humor that blesses his family continually. He was a marvelous example. She thanks Heavenly Father for such a kind, loving Gentle Giant. Lee Ann resides in Durham, NC.
David is survived by their loving son, Matthew Ryan McCray, of Durham, NC. David set about teaching Matthew the value of hard work, honesty, and unconditional love. Matthew remembers his dad as a fun-loving, dedicated father whose kindness never failed to amaze.
He is also survived by his Mother-in-Law, Barbara Goodwin of Havana, FL, siblings Monte McCray (Fran) of Sacramento, CA; Ronald McCray (Edy) of Sacramento, CA; Marcia Wise (Wayne) of Woodland, CA; Marlene Law (Ted) of Salt Lake City, UT, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
David was exceptionally selfless, always putting others wants and needs above his own. He constantly found the positive in every situation. David’s outgoing personality helped him to be a friend to all. He enjoyed telling people how much they were loved by Heavenly Father. He was an active member of the LDS Church and gave his time and service to others in need. Throughout his life, he served faithfully in many callings in the church. He loved music and performing on his guitar, piano or accordion… often times composing and performing his own songs. David had the voice of an angel. While in college he performed in the Brigham Young University Men’s Choir. He was an avid fan of football and wrestling.
David was a successful vendor for many years with the Business Enterprise Program for the Blind in California and North Carolina.
A Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2015, at 7:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3902 Berini Dr., Durham, NC 27705.
