Mr. Dennis Walter Greenhill was born February 15, 1948, in Durham, North Carolina. Dennis is preceded in death by his father, Claude Elmo Greenhill; mother, Jacqueline Baas Greenhill; and brother, Robert Greenhill.
Dennis served in the naval reserve for four years, which included a thirteen-month stint in Da Nang, Vietnam as a heavy equipment operator. Dennis married the love of his life, the beautiful Ida Bailey. They were married on November 22, 1975, and enjoyed 47 wonderful years together. Dennis' passions included teaching and coaching his kids, as well as spoiling his grandkids. He loved painting and building model airplanes. His love for the outdoors and working in the dirt produced many prolific vegetable gardens and flowers throughout the yard. He will be remembered most for his love of the weather. He passed on his passion for Duke sports, space, airplanes, and art to his children and grandchildren.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Ida Greenhill; children, Ashley (Mike) Shott, Jonathan (Mollie) Greenhill, Taylor (Johnathan) Capps; grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Cameron) Richardson, Emily Shott, Tristen Shott, Kate Greenhill, Drew Greenhill, Carter Capps; and sisters, Joyce (Jeff) Keller and Anita Woodell.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, January 11, 2023, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Ridgecrest Baptist Church. Officiating will be Dr. Marc Francis. Burial will follow at Brier Creek Memorial Gardens with military honors.
