DURHAM- Dr. Donald Jeffery Goldstein, 74, passed away Saturday, September 10, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family.
Dr. Goldstein was born August 2, 1948 to the late Abraham and Anne Goldstein in Memphis, Tennessee and grew up in Los Angeles. Donald earned his bachelors at UC Santa Cruz and his PhD in political philosophy at Harvard. He settled in Washington, D.C. where he raised a family and worked at the CIA and Pentagon for fifteen years. He then founded the Nomos Corporation, an international government and technology consulting company.
In 2008, he retired to Durham, N.C. where he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and Jewish learning, particularly the study of Maimonides. He loved philosophy, music, history and travel. He explored the world with his wife and family and spent many summers studying at the Conservative Yeshiva in Jerusalem.
Dr. Goldstein is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sheila Goldstein; his daughter Deborah, his son Ariel, his grandchildren Avery, Hannah, and Hugo, and his brothers Bob and Ira.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at Beth El Synagogue, 1004 Watts Street, Durham, NC 27701. Officiating will be Rabbi Daniel Greyber. Burial will follow at Durham Hebrew Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed to the Beth El Durham synagogue, the Conservative Yeshiva in Jerusalem (USCJ), and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
