DURHAM Mr. Donald Ray Dean, 71, of Durham, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2017.
Mr. Dean was born on October 31, 1945 in Durham. He served in the U. S. Navy and was a graduate of Shaw University. Mr. Dean worked as a Substance Abuse Counselor for the Durham County Criminal Justice Resource Center for several years. He loved golf and had a lifelong hobby of collecting arrowheads. Mr. Dean was a loving cousin and dear friend to all. He was preceded in death by his parents Mary Matthews King and Tyree Dean; cousin, Rowland Williams and aunts, Gladys M. Pope and Gertrude M. Williams.
He is survived by his cousins, Linda Williams Fogleman, Tommy Guthrie, Martha Guthrie Harris; special cousins that called him “Uncle Don”, Lee Berrios-Smothers, Connie Small, Windy Ezzell, William Small and several other cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 4, 2017 at 3 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Mr. Frank Shipp will officiate. Honorary pallbearers/Good Friends will be Big Mike, Tony Alderman, Tony Hughes, Jimmy Hall and Randall Preddy, Sr.
The family will receive friends on Friday, before the service from 2 to 3 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home. Flowers are acceptable. Online condolences can be made at www.hudsonfuneralhome.com.
