DURHAM- Mr. Donald William Witten, Sr., 78, passed away Friday, September 15, 2017 at Hock Family Pavilion.Mr. Witten was born April 23, 1939 in Washington, D.C. to the late Shurl, Sr. and Ruth Witten. He was a graduate of Southern High School in 1958. Mr. Witten proudly served his country in the North Carolina National Guard. He then became the owner/baker of Aunt Ruth’s Rolling Pin Bakery. Mr. Witten an employee of Duke University where he retired in September of 2004, then a consultant with Food Management Group, Inc. He was an avid Duke fan and a former member of the Honey’s Coffee Club.Mr. Witten is preceded in death by his wife Icy Belinda Kellum Witten; parents, Shurl, Sr. and Ruth Witten; brother, Shurl Witten, Jr.Mr. Witten is survived by his daughter, Tara Witten; son, Don Witten, Jr., and wife, Vickie; grandchildren, Cierra and Alex Witten, Christopher Witten Jenkins of Stella, NC, brother, Dave Witten, and wife, Brenda of Reedville, VA.Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Greg Allison. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park. A visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Monday, September 18, 2017 at Hudson Funeral Home.In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution can be directed to the Duke Cancer Research, 20 Duke Medicine Cir, Durham, NC 27710 or Hock Family Pavilion, 4023 N Roxboro St, Durham, NC 27704.
