DURHAM- Mrs. Dorothy Deese Reece, 74, passed away on Friday, April 16, 2021 at Duke University Hospital.
Mrs. Reece was born November 9, 1946 to Joel and Nellie Deese in Union County, NC. She retired from UNC Oncology as receptionist and scheduler. Dorothy valued her hope, faith in Jesus and the fellowship meetings. She was very caring and took great care of her husband and family. Dorothy was a wonderful mother and selfless woman. She took the time to get to know other people and was always making sure everyone was taken care of, she was a friend to everyone. Dorothy will be deeply missed by her family and everyone blessed to have known her.
Mrs. Reece was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 11 years, Wayne Reece; and brother, Leonard Deese.
Mrs. Reece is survived by son, Dwayne Reece of Morganton, NC; daughter, Beverly Reece of Durham, NC; granddaughter, Carrie Reece (Fiancé, Austin Shaw); grandson, Andrew Morgan; brother, Joel Deese; sister-in-law, Jeannie Deese and other loving family members.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 19, 2021 at Hudson Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Hudson Funeral Home. Officiating will be Mr. Jim Holt and Ms. Mindy Yule.
A graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at Burke Memorial Park in Morganton, NC, with a 15-minute viewing prior to the service. Officiating will be Mr. Greg Swenson and Miss Wanda Skilbred. Pallbearers will be Ray Reece, Brandon Reece, Sam Reece, Brad Perkins, Dwight Ross, and Sam Hunt.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society at www.nationalmssociety.org/Donate.
Hudson Funeral Home will be observing social distancing for visitation as well as the funeral service, and asks everyone in attendance to wear a mask when entering the building.
