Dorothy Hicks

Dorothy Hicks, 93, of Durham, North Carolina passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2025. She was born in Hurdle Mills, NC on October 14, 1931 to the late Ellis and Mary Overby.

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her brothers, Fenten Overby, Frank Overby, Cecil Overby, Clyde Overby and Ellis Overby, Jr.

Mrs. Hicks was a devout Christian, she was a longtime member of North Fork Baptist Church in Virgilina, VA and attended Bible Baptist Church in Durham, NC. She retired from Duke after working many years as Staff Assistant to the Head of Neuro Surgery.

Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by everyone blessed to have known her.

Mrs. Hicks is survived by her children, Danny Hicks (Mitzi), David Hicks and Linda Oakley; grandchildren, Brad Hicks (Carli), Shannon Taylor (Chanita), Nicole Swartz (Lucas) and Chris Oakley (Trish); great grandchildren, Dayton Hicks (Julia), Levi Hicks, Bailey Kitchen, Addie Kitchen, Vitoria Taylor, Carter Taylor, Sophie Swartz and Jayden Swartz; special friends, Rose Hagan and Paulette Bullock and other loving family members and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Hudson Funeral Home, 211 S. Miami Blvd., Durham, NC 27703. Rev. Greg Allison will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service starting at 10:00 A.M.

The Committal Service will follow at 2:00 P.M. at North Fork Baptist Cemetery, 5124 North Fork Church Rd., Virgilina, VA 24598.

Serving as Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Brad Hicks, Shannon Taylor, Chris Oakley, Dayton Hicks and Levi Hicks
