DURHAM Dorothy Mae Hall Ray, 86, of Durham, died on Wednesday, January 4, 2012.Born April 16, 1925, she was a native and lifelong resident of Durham, the daughter of the late Darnell Carr Hall and SarahAnn LovieJane Grady Hall Berry. She was a graduate of Durham High School, a member of the VFW ladies Auxiliary. She was a lifelong member of Branson Memorial Methodist Church until its close, transferred to Duke’s Chapel United Methodist Church. She enjoyed every generation of Star Trek, the game of Bingo and all the friendships that came along with it through the years! Her true passion and joy came from being with and caring for her family. She was a devoted wife, Mother, Grandmother, Aunt and friend to many people.She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Rufus Everette Ray, sister Ruby Hall Parker and brother, William “Billy Carr Hall. She is survived by one daughter, Jane Ray Carden (Tal) of Durham, three sons, Phillip Everette Ray (Sue) of Florida, Vann Hall Ray (Dixie) of Efland and Mark Grady Ray (Tami) of Raleigh, 9 grandchildren, Brody Ray, Justin Ray (Rita), Keely Ray Kelly (Dan), Shelly Ray Cuthbertson (Brandon), Kyle Carden, Colby Carden, Samantha Ray, Taz Ray, Carolynn Ray, and 5 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2 pm at Duke’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Durham. The Reverend Julia Alliger will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.The family will receive friends on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at the home of Jane Ray Carden.
