Dorothy Nell Utley Hackney

DURHAM Mrs. Dorothy Nell Utley Hackney, 86, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 4, 2014.
Ms. Hackney was a native of Durham, the daughter of the late Marvin and Mabel Utley. She was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son Jerry and wife, Brenda of Durham; granddaughter, Lori Hackney; one brother, J. M. Utley, Jr. and wife, Catherine. She was predeceased in death by her husband, Sterling Hackney and one sister, Peggy Edmonds.
Dot, affectionately known as Granny, loved her family and friends very deeply. She enjoyed spending time with them at family gatherings, going to the beach, eating out, shopping, or just riding around. She also enjoyed weekly beauty parlor appointments, dancing, singing and putting puzzles together. She will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel followed by burial in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Rev. Hugh O’Shields will officiate. Pallbearers will be Jay Utley, Dwayne Brinkley, Felton Perry, Marvin Utley, Lou Utley and Mike Sewell.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at 2407 Azalea Drive. Flowers are acceptable.
