DURHAM Mr. E. J. “Red” Critcher, 84, of Durham, died on Tuesday, March 19, 2013.Mr. Critcher was a native and lifelong resident of Durham, the son of the late Ira Jackson Critcher and Mollie Riggins Critcher Sharpe. He served in the U. S. Merchant Marine during World War II. He retired from the American Tobacco Company. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma D. Brinkley and his special friend, Elizabeth “Lib” Burgess.He is survived by his son, Earlie “Bud” Critcher, Jr. (Paula Kennedy); daughter, Judy Critcher Jones (Steve) of Durham; three stepsons, Bart, Doug and Eddie Brinkley; two granddaughters, Jodie Edwards (Jeff), Kimberly Edmiston (Armando) and three great-grandsons, Chase, Chesney and Cullen Edwards.Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel, officiated by Rev. Tim Wheeler. Burial will be in Brier Creek Memorial Gardens.The family will receive friends on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at the home.
