Edna Brock Rice

DURHAM- Mrs. Edna Brock Rice, 79, passed away Friday, March 30, 2018 at Hock Family Pavilion surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Rice was born May 3, 1938 in Duplin County, NC to the late Bernice and Rachel Brock. She was a member of Plainview Baptist Church for over 40 years and was in the Truth Seekers Sunday School Class. She announced the cake walk every fall at the fall festival. Mrs. Rice was a member of Redwood Ruritan Club and the Home Extension Club. She cared for many children in the community over the years in her home. She loved going to the beach fishing, spending time with her sisters, and traveling with DeWitt on bus tours. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her world, she enjoyed attending all of their activities, and especially enjoyed their weekly meals together. Edna will be remembered as a sweet and loving wife, mother and grandmother who touched so many lives. She will be missed by many family and friends.
Mrs. Rice is preceded in death by her parents, Bernice and Rachel Brock; brothers, Bill and Ralph Brock; brother-in-law, Charles Pope.
Mrs. Rice is survived by her husband, DeWitt T. Rice, Jr. of 58 years; son, Jeff Rice (Jo); daughter, Deborah Taylor (Chris); sisters, Helen Wise (William), Kay Pope, Rose Johnson (Jay), Connie Kosarek (Ed); sister-in-laws, Geraldine Brock and Brenda Brock; grandchildren, Todd Rice, Chelsea Weeks (B.J.), Chad Taylor (Kaitlyn); great-grandchildren, Liam and Shelby, and numerous other loving family members and friends.
Pallbearers will be George Woods, Ronnie Haigler, David Pennell, Kevin Pope, Jay Johnson and Anthony Johnson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Martin Thompson, Ray Taylor and Sammy Thompson.
A visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:30-2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Plainview Baptist Church, 5200 Cheek Road, Durham, NC 27703. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Doug Nalley and Rev. Ed Denton. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
