DURHAM Edward Hammond Perry, 87, of Durham passed away Monday, June 11, 2012. He was born May 3, 1925. He served in World War II for two years. He also worked at Liggett and Myers Tobacco Company for 39 years, retiring in July of 1985. He attended Grove Park Chapel. He was a loving father and grandfather. He enjoyed gardening, carpentry, and spending time with his family. He is preceded in death by his parents Elbert Hammond Perry and Mamie Tilley Perry, his brother Willie Perry, and his sister Anna Marie “Bug” Perry. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years, Faye Atkins Perry, his children: Wanda Perry Corr, Dana Edward Perry, and Carol Perry Holder (Randall), his grandchildren: Sarah Corr Sherron (Jeff), Shelly Corr, Brittany Perry, Lindsey Perry, Justin Perry, and Myra Holder, his brothers: Tom Perry (Helen), Horace Perry (Sondria), Ralph Perry (Carole), Felton Perry (Brenda), his sisters: Peggy Elliott (Joe), Dora Crabtree, Shirley Byrd (David), Edith Daniel, Janet Stewart (Larry), and Alma Earl Pope (Larry) and several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel, officiating by Pastor Dale Brooks. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., before the service at the funeral home.
