Edwin Lee “Ed” Sears

DURHAM Mr. Edwin Lee Sears, 84, of Durham, died on Monday, March 17, 2014.
Mr. Sears was a native and lifelong resident of Durham, the son of the late Jesse Hubert Sears and Pearl Cartner Sears. He served in the U. S. Navy and retired after 38 years as an Engineer for GTE. He was a member of Lowes Grove Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and was a member of the Young Men’s Class and the Adult Choir. He was a member of the Durham Masonic Lodge 352, American Legion Post 416 and the Elks Lodge. He loved spending time at the beach.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jean R. Sears; son, Randy Sears and wife, Amy of Durham; daughter, Iris S. Ellington and husband, Bill of Greensboro; brother, Norman T. Sears of New Bern; five grandchildren, Emily E. Guyer (Michael), Claire Sears, Will Ellington, Rob Sears and Christian Ellington; one great-granddaughter, Amelia Guyer.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Lowes Grove Baptist Church. Rev. Forest Gale and Rev. Michael Guyer will officiate. Burial with Masonic Rites will be in Maplewood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lowes Grove Baptist Church Fund, 4430 S. Alston Ave. Durham, NC 27713.
