DURHAM Mrs. Effie Gilbert Emory, 92, of Durham, died on Friday, October 21, 2016.
Mrs. Emory was born in Raleigh, NC, the daughter of the late Leo Gilbert and Cloie Knight. After her retirement from Golden Belt Hosiery, she was employed for 10 years with Days Inn as a Gift Shop Manager and also kept children in her home. She was a member for over 30 years at Fieldcrest Baptist Church in Durham where she taught Sunday School. After moving to Creedmoor she became a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Creedmoor. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and crocheting. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Emory.
She is survived by her son, Tony Christopher Emory and wife, Sharon of Creedmoor; three daughters, Effie “Jr.” Weaver and husband, Lenny of Rougemont, Kathryn Hersey of Timberlake and Janet DeHart and husband, Roger of Ruffin, NC; 10 grandchildren, Mitzi Nugent, Staci Good, Scott Moore, Jennifer Hersey, Neal Hersey Paul DeHart, Christy Blevins, Holly Olive, Brittany Cole and Brandon Jones; 15 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at 1 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Mr. Lenny Weaver (son-in-law) will officiate. Pallbearers will be Brandon Jones, Chris Alford, Aaron Hersey, Neal Hersey, Scott Moore, Roger Dehart and Lenny Weaver. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, Effie “Jr.” Weaver, 1899 Bowen Road in Rougemont.
