ENNICE- Mrs. Pearl Elizabeth Burgess, 85, passed away Saturday March 18, 2017.
Mrs. Burgess was born December 7, 1931 in Durham, NC. She was the sixth of nine children. She worked for American Tobacco Company for 36 years. Mrs. Burgess loved to garden, to fish, and to cook. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother.
Mrs. Burgess is preceded in death by her husband Elton Burgess and her parents William and Eugenia Bennett.
Mrs. Burgess is survived by her son, Thomas Carroll of Durham; daughter, Wendy Dooley (James) of Ormond Beach, FL; brother, Harold Bennett of Durham; sisters, Imogene Carver (Glen) of Wilmington, and Laverne Burch of Durham; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Kelvin Allen, Jim Dooley, Rodney Coe, Ricky Swain, Larry Hardworth, John Winston, and honorary pallbearer Ethan Allen.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m. Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Hudson Funeral Chapel. A visitation will be held one hour prior from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Ken Forehand Burial will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
