Elsie Johnson Suggs

DURHAM- Ms. Elsie Gray Johnson Suggs, 89, passed away on Friday, October 2, 2020 at Duke University Hospital.

Ms. Suggs was born on March 4, 1931 to Willie and Cora Johnson in Johnston County, NC. She worked for American Tobacco Company and then as a caregiver. Elsie was a member of the RTP Community Church in Durham, NC. She loved the Lord, her church and their Pastor. She loved to see all her children serving the Lord at her church. Elsie enjoyed flowers and spending time with her family. She was a very kind and loving person, who will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Ms. Suggs was preceded in death by her parents Willie and Cora Johnson; her husband, Walter Suggs; and nine siblings.

Ms. Suggs is survived by her son, David Bruce Suggs of Durham, NC; daughters, Barbara Suggs Riley of Creedmoor, NC, and Tammy Suggs Norris of Durham, NC; grandchildren, Hannah Suggs, Sharyn Lynn Gregory (Wendell), Christie Leigh Cheek, Jessica Durham, Holly Norris, and Ashley Keith Hinks (James); and great-grandchildren, Mason Gregory, Carson Gregory, Holden Cheek, Morgan Keith, Scarlett Owens, Jemma Hinks, and Eli Durham.

A memorial service will be held on at 3:00 p.m. Monday, October 5, 2020 at Hudson Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Dr. Devon Blanton. Visitation will be held an hour prior to service from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home.

Hudson Funeral Home will be observing social distancing for visitation as well as the funeral service, and asks everyone in attendance to wear a mask when entering the building.
