Ethel Wicker Chappell

Ethel Chappell, 90, of Durham, North Carolina passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2025. She was born June 21, 1934 in Durham, NC to the late Hallie and Nellie Wicker.

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her loving husband Charlie Chappell and their son, Charles “Les” Chappell.

Mrs. Chappell retired from the VA Hospital in Durham after working in Canteen Service for over 25 years. She was a long-time member of Rose of Sharon Baptist Church.

Ethel enjoyed going to Thrift Stores and collecting a variety of items. She loved day trips to the beach and always looked forward to a delicious seafood meal. Ethel found comfort and joy in having friends come by and visit as she loved spending time with people. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and a kind woman.

Mrs. Chappell is survived by her dear and great friend, Deborah Jean Hynes and other loving family members.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at Rose of Sharon Baptist Church, 4109 Guess Rd., Durham, NC 27712. Rev. Jeffrey McCarthy will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose of Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held prior to the service starting at 1:00 P.M.
