Evelyn Wheeley

DURHAM Mrs. Evelyn Wheeley, 88, of Durham, died on Monday, June 22, 2015.

Mrs. Wheeley was born in Burlington to the late Arthur Lee Shoe and Emily May Sharpe Shoe. She was a faithful and active member of the former Bethesda United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the choir and a Den mother for the Cub Scouts. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be missed by everyone blessed to have known her.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Wilton Wheeley; son, Ed Wheeley; daughter, Lynn Wheeley Loomis and husband, Bill; sisters, Christine Shoe Teague and husband, Charles and Barbara Shoe Saunders; grandchildren, Marianne Williams Massey and husband, Wes, Jennifer William Lane and husband, Eddie, Chad Wheeley and wife, Amy; 7 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday at 3 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Shoe, Larry Shoe, Freddie Saunders, Craig Shoe, Ande Shoe, Steve VonCannon, Ned Mann and Jeff Wells

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2 to 3 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home.  Rev. Will Jackson will officiate.
