Ezra W. Layell

DURHAM- Mr. Ezra Watson Layell, 84, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2019.Mr. Layell was born on November 3, 1934 to Nora and Bramlet Layell in Winston Salem, NC. He proudly served his country in the United States Army based in Germany and was a military police officer. Ezra assisted in the installation production of the transatlantic communications cable while working with Western Electric, and retired from IBM as a Machinist. Ezra loved to fish, camp, cook out and fish frys. Mr. Layell found joy in serving others and will be lovingly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.Mr. Layell is preceded in death by his parents, Nora and Bramlet Layell; brother, James Layell; sisters, Becky Layell, Alice Ellis, and Ruth Goforth. He is survived by his wife, Martha R. Layell; son, Ronnie Layell; step-son, Glenn Porter; brother, Johnny Layell; sisters, Alvia Owens, and Brenda Stitz; grandchildren, Cory Porter, and Kayla Layell.A visitation will be held at Bible Baptist Church at 2047 Gate 2 Road, Creedmoor, NC on Thursday, June 6, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 7, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Bible Baptist Church. Officiating will be Reverend Greg Allison. Burial to follow at Brier Creek Memorial Gardens.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Youth Missionary Fund at Bible Baptist Church, 2047 Gate 2 Road, Creedmoor, NC 27522.
