Florence Rita Albert, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away on August 5, 2019 at the age of 93 after a long and happy life. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Theodore M. Albert, her sister, Hindalyn K. Wolly, her brother, Sanders Kottelman, and her granddaughter, Taylor A. Albert.
She is survived by her daughter, Candace Lehmann of St. Louis, MO, her son, Scott Albert of Chapel Hill, her grandchildren: Samantha Agoos, Charles Agoos, Evan Lehmann, Josh Albert and Cameron Albert, and her twin sister, Miriam Goer.
Florence was born on June 27, 1926 in Orlando, FL, to Ruby and Harry Kottelman. She attended the University of Illinois and graduated from the University of South Carolina with a BA degree in Accounting and English. Florence met her husband, Ted, in Orlando, FL, and they married there on Sept. 4, 1950. After their two children were born, Florence and Ted moved frequently for education and employment opportunities and lived all around the country. Throughout their adventures, they owned a series of adored Irish terriers – all named Timmy.
Florence was patient with all the family moves and provided Ted with unrelenting support and optimism. They moved permanently to Chapel Hill, NC, in 2004 to be near their son and grandchildren. Florence quickly made friends in Chapel Hill and played weekly games of bridge and mahjong.
Florence’s greatest joys in life were her family and friends. She also loved the daily visits by her “grand-puppy” Lilly. The world is a better place because of her kindness, goodness and grace.
She will be buried in Maplewood Cemetery in Durham next to Ted, her beloved husband of 61 years.
Donations may be made in her memory to a charity of your choice.
