DURHAM Mr. Frank Hollingsworth “Buddy” Murphy, 89 a former resident of Mineral Springs Road in Durham, died on Monday, September 25, 2017.
Mr. Murphy was born in Franklin County, the son of the late William Hollingsworth Murphy and Annie Preddy Murphy. He served in the U. S. Navy and was a WWII veteran. He retired from American Tobacco Company as a Machinist. Mr. Murphy was a member of Bible Baptist Church where he was a Greeter for many years, always giving candy to the children. He was a member of the Auditorium Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alma Murphy; son, Pastor Mike Murphy; sister, Sally Murphy Lyons and granddaughter, Shannon Murphy.
He is survived by his wife, Julia Slade Murphy; step-daughter, Nita Slade Cotten and husband, Harold of Garner; brother, William Lee Murphy and wife, Jackie of Charlotte; grandson, Josh Cotten and wife, Angela; great-grandson, Blayden Cotton and adopted daughter, Sandra Hibbard.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Bible Baptist Church. Pastor Greg Allison, Pastor Phillip Adams, Pastor Jimmy Hall and Pastor Greg Butler will officiate. Burial with military rites will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Sam Hall, Bryant Inscoe, Dwight Evans, Mike Glenn, Pete Huckabee and Peter Taylor.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bible Baptist Church off I-85N Creedmoor, Exit 189.
