George Kermit Riggs

Mr. George Kermit Riggs, 91, of Durham, passed away Friday, September 2, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family.

Mr. Riggs was born July 12, 1931, in Durham, N.C. to the late Thelbert and Mattie Ferrell Riggs.

Kermit was a lifelong member of Shady Grove Church. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and the National Guard. He was co-owner of Briggs and Riggs Auto Sales in Durham for many years. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Kermit is predeceased in death by his wife of 72 years, Ruth Fisher Riggs who died May 28, 2021; brother, Ted Riggs; sisters, Thelma Lee Davis and Anna Faye Martin.

Mr. Riggs is survived by his daughter, Jera Riggs-DeBalsi and her wife Dr. Karen DeBalsi; brothers, Preston Riggs and Paul Riggs.

A visitation will be held at Shady Grove Church on Tuesday September 6, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. at the church. The Reverend Arnold Price and Reverend Tim McCreight will officiate.

Interment will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
