DURHAM – Mr. George Lee Garrett 89, passed away peacefully at the home of his Daughter Diane Thomas on August 20, 2021, where he had been a resident in Las Vegas, Nevada for the past 16 years.
Mr. Garrett was born January 16, 1932 to the late Clarence Johnson and Mary Belle Gooch. He retired after 42 years with the Public Service Gas Company of N.C. as a Service Technician. George loved being outside in nature, whether it was fishing, birdwatching or just soaking up the sunshine. He also enjoyed his gardening, especially his hot peppers and tomatoes. He also enjoyed “Dropping a Dime” at the Casinos, always hoping for the ‘Big One’ to hit.
George was an honest, kind, generous, sweet soul who would give you the shirt off his back. He was a very straight forward man that you could always count on to listen to you and give you good sound advice. George will be remembered as a loving Husband, Father, and Grandfather.
In addition to his Parents, George is preceded in death by the love of his life and partner of 45 years, Patricia Baucom Garrett, and daughter Barbara Ann Thomas (Troy)
George is survived by his children Bobby Garrett (Linda), Diane Thomas (Gary), Ricky Garrett (Jerry), and Pamela Fletcher (Eric Meyer) along with his loving 11 Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren, and 1 Great, Great Grandchild, as well as other loving Family members and Friends.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Eric Meyer, DJ Fletcher, Dylan Fletcher, and Joshua Thomas.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday September 3, 2021 at Hudson Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Hugh O’Shields. Burial will follow at Markham Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held 7:00-9:00 p.m. Thursday, September 2, 2021 at Hudson Funeral Home.
