DURHAM- George Lewis Garrett, 82, of Durham died on Saturday, January 24, 2015. He was the son of the late Robert Nolan Garrett and Mable Morton Garrett. He was a Sergeant in the US Army and served in the Korean War. He loved the Lord and his family. He was a master gardener and loved woodworking. He was preceded in death by his son, Clifford Dale Garrett, three brothers, Tom Garrett, Bill Garrett and Edward Garrett.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Betty Thornton Garrett, three daughters, Toni Garrett Colon (Sam) of Raleigh; Donna Garrett Brickey (Dennis) of Garner; Patricia Garrett Franks (Paul) of Louisburg; two brothers, Dave Garrett of Franklinton; and Richard Garrett of Oxford; three grandchildren, Justin “Ty” Morris (Korrie) of Youngsville; Courtney Morris of Greenville; Garrett Speicher of Garner; one great-grandchild, Turner Morris.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Rev. Hugh O’Shields will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Ty Morris, Garrett Speicher, Ricky Garrett and Scotty Garrett.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday one hour prior to the service at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at the home. Flowers are acceptable or donations can be made to Duke Childrens Hospital, 2301 Erwin Rd., Durham, NC 27705. Online condolences can be made at www.hudsonfuneralhome.com.
