ROUGEMONT- Mr. George Savannah Murray, Jr., 75, of Durham died on Thursday, May 15, 2014. He was a native and lifelong resident of Durham, the son of the late George Savannah Murray, Sr. and Mecie Mandy Strickland Murray. He served in the U.S. Army and National Guard. He was a member of Red Mountain Baptist Church, First graduating class of Northern High School, loved gardening, farming, was an avid hunter. He was a beloved father, husband, brother, grandfather and friend, he never met a stranger. George was preceded in death by his first wife, Margie Keith Murray, brother, Nelson Murray, sisters, Christine Massey, Betty Murray, Evelyn Murray, Ruby Murray and Eula Pollock.
He is survived by his wife, Christy Hamm Murray, son, George Michael “Mike” Murray of Durham; daughter, Denise Murray Fain and son-in-law Wendell of Rougemont; two sisters, Annie Lorae Byrd and Daphine Tingen both of Durham; three grandchildren, Zachary and Dillon Fain, Jacob Murray, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Red Mountain Baptist Church. Rev. David Pryor and Rev. Joe Glenn will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be, Mike Renn, Jimmy Jacobs, Dustin Roberts, Danny Drye, Chris Harward, Jeff Ingram, Jack Ellis and Richard Lundy.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at the home.
